The carving tools themselves are pretty sturdy and work well on different thicknesses of pumpkin, though you will want to use the scooper to thin out the inside as much as you can first, so the light can shine through the smaller cuts well. The stencils themselves are pretty flimsy - photocopy them first if you want to use them year after year. They fall apart pretty fast if they get wet - which they will if you are carving a pumpkin. You have to poke holes all along the stencil/pumpkin before removing the stencil and carving. But if you are careful while doing your initial outlines, you shouldn't have a problem.

The saw broke almost immediately... it just wasn't robust enough for the pumpkins we had.
The scraper did a reasonable job.. but the broken saw was a pity and stalled the entire pumpkin carving activity.
