Product Review

A supplier to the vast majority of cooking academies, Mercer Cutlery offers the Genesis Collection of kitchen knives to provide professional quality to the home chef. Comfortable, durable, and efficient, Genesis knives feature fully forged, single-piece blades made from high-carbon, no-stain German steel. Their taper-grind edges are polished by hand, and their substantial bolsters provide helpful balance. Black nonslip Santoprene handles make Genesis knives comfortable and secure in the grip, improving efficiency and safety in the kitchen.

A handsome collection with a modern look, this 6-piece set includes five of the most popular Genesis knives and a striking tempered glass knife block. Designed to stand upright on the counter, the block holds the 3-1/2-inch paring, 5-inch utility, 8-inch chef's, 8-inch bread, and 6-inch boning knives. The knives are displayed as visibly as they would be on a magnetic strip but without exposed blades. All knives in this set are made in Taiwan using European components and technology. They should be washed by hand for best results and carries Mercer's one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

I had the chance to try cutting with the Mercer's chef knife at a local kitchen store. Compared to the Wüstof and Henckels knives, these Mercer knives are heftier with a bulkier hand grip. At first I did not like the bulkiness of the grip however I did like the weight difference. I would have purchased the knives locally, but the shop was unable to order this knife block set.

Now that I have been using these knives quiet a bit over the past week, it was definitely worth the purchase. I don't even notice the bulkier hand grip now (and it is only bulky by comparison to Wüstof and Henckels). It is my understanding that these knives are commonly used by culinary students and I can understand why. This is a professional product for nearly half the price of other knives in this competition range. In order to keep the blades sharp, I also purchased the...Read more

These knives are of very good weight and very sharp. Definately not a cheap feel! The glass block is awsome and looks great on the kitchen counter. It is easy to assemble, and easy to clean.

This is a wonderful product. The stand is very substantial, the finish is not overly shiny and looks even better than the picture. The knives weigh more than others, but you get used to it without any problem and its easy to get a good grip. The knives have a nice metal logo (?) on one side that helps me line them up easily. This was our first set of good cutlery and I cant believe what a difference it makes to have the right tool (even tho I still hate to cook).
