The fine sharp edge blades are hand honed, and neatly kept in a space saving counter block made of stainless steel and Walnut stained wood. This set contains an 8-inch Chef Knife, 8-inch Slicer Knife, 6-inch Boning Knife, 4-1/2-inch Utility Knife, 3-1/2-inch Parer Knife, 6 x 4-1/2-inch and Wood Block - we also included a Bonus 8-inch Offset Bread Knife with a blade guard. I completely agree with the other reviewer about the handles. I read his review before purchasing, but didn't give it as much weight as I wish I did. The handles are hollow (not full tang), which makes the knives feel a lot less solid than my other knives. It takes a little more force to cut with them and they feel cheaper. However, since it's actually forged and not stamped steel, at least they do not feel flimsy. If I had bought them from a store, I most likely would have returned them. Since they weren't too expensive, I figure I'll stick with them for now. For my next knife set, I will definitely spend a little extra and get a more solid set. I'll preface the review by saying that she absolutely loves them.
The knives are light, due to the fact that the handles are hollow. The handles are hollow, because they're not full tang. Had I known they're not full tang, I wouldn't have bought them. However, there doesn't appear to be any structural weaknesses because of this... I just stupidly assumed that because the handles were riveted, they must be full tang. I was wrong. The block that comes with the knives is decent looking. (I like the metal cross bars that give it a unique look.) All in all the knives are good. Not great... but good. If they were full tang and had a nice weight to them, I could've given them five stars. |
