I was looking for somthing I never had, a complete set of sharp kinves in a nice block that I could leave on the kitchen counter. I wanted a known brand without spending a fortune. This Ginsu knife set with block does just that. The knives have a balanced feel. The chopping knife has a thin blade that is razor sharp and seems to glide through vegatables. After reading other reviews, I have taken some precautions. I never put the kinves in the dishwasher. They are hand washed,immediately dried and returned to their place in the block. One reviewer claimed that the knives would not cut raw meat. I have found this to not be the case. I have had this kinfe set for over 6 months and am very satisfied I made the right choice.

Ginsu knives have no snob appeal. But they are great at a knife's main job: they are, and stay, sharp for cutting. The serrated edges reduce the likelihood of cutting oneself accidentally when washing them. The bakelite handles are an improvement over the old, brittle plastic handles. And the steak knives are fine for table settings, so long as you're not entertaining high society.

I've had these knives for about 3 months now. Not a long time to give an accurate opinion on the longevity, but so far, they're holding up just fine. Haven't noticed any dulling yet. Very attractive knife set. Not terribly expensive, either.
