Laguiole, a small French mountain town about 350 miles south of Paris, is famous for its cattle, its cheese, and its cutlery. The original Laguiole knife was made by ironsmiths in 1829, as a farmers tool. This farmers tool was refined into the Laguiole Steak Knife, which is used today by many famous French restaurants. The Laguiole with its gentle carving blade, the elongated pistol grip handle and small BEE set into the bolster has been the focus of many stories passed down from generation to generation. The BEE is cut out of steel and decorates the handle. The BEE originally came from an award following a courageous act during a campaign under Napoleon I, when the Imperial Emblem was given as a reward! For 50 years, Barenthal has been designing and handcrafting flatware and cutlery to the highest standard of quality. I am thrilled with these knives. They have a serrated edge and are extremely sharp. You will never have to sharpen them. I have a friend who bought the same make several years ago and hers are still as sharp as the day she got them. I feel so fortunate to have located an identical set. If you are looking for good steak knives, these are the ones to get. They are made in France, have a decent weight and look good.

The balance is right and the smooth finish is attractive.

The serrated edge cuts beautifully. I prefer the all stainless

handle, and these look as nice on a casually set table as

a more formal one.

These are a great product. Major upgrade from what we had before and can be put in the dishwasher.
