With sleek, contemporary, satin-finish stainless-steel handles, the five stainless-steel kitchen knives and six stainless-steel steak knives in this set equip the kitchen and dining room for every essential need. Sculpted bolsters give the knives balance and provide control. The five kitchen knives: 8-inch chef's for rocking through chopping tasks, 8-inch slicer for carving roasts and poultry, 8-inch bread with serrated edge for slicing crusty loaves, 5-inch utility with serrated blade for tomatoes and other soft vegetables and fruits, and 3-1/4-inch paring. The 4-1/4-inch steak knives have serrated tips. Included in the set are an 8-inch sharpening steel to keep edges aligned and 8-inch kitchen shears with a bottle opener between the handles. All pieces fit into a stylish, black, hardwood storage block slanted for easy access. The knives are dishwasher-safe but should be hand washed to preserve edges. --Fred Brack

Farberware Pro Stainless-Steel 15-Piece Fine-Edge Knife Set with Block, Black
This review is from: Farberware Pro Stainless-Steel 15-Piece Fine-Edge Knife Set with Block, Black (Kitchen)
Had the knives two weeks, and was really impressed by the look feel and cut. However, after a couple of washes, rust spots began appearing. I suppose if I washed them all by hand and dried them off right away instead of air drying this wouldn't have happened(my fault..(?) ). I expected better, since I've had cheap K-mart knives for 10 years that didn't rust. I contacted farberware and they did say that if I return the rusted knives they would exchange them, with a turn around time of 6-8 weeks.

These Farberware pro knives use 18/8 AKA A2 tool steel. They are not stainless, and should probably not be labeled as such. A2 is stain resistant, though. The reason they rust is because they have a higher carbon content and lower chromium than many other stainless knives, with added Vanadiaum for better edge retention. This allows them to keep an edge longer, and makes them easier to sharpen. The price you pay is they will rust if you leave them in a hot dishwasher several times. If you want knives you do not need to look after, you may wish to go elsewhere. If you want knives that perform far above the asking price, then you should consider these near the top.

I am suprised that so many people are having the same issue on this knife set as I do. Don't get it. They might look cool and pretty, the uni-body design, but they rust like crazy. They are suppose to be stainless steel, but started rust after washed for the very first time. I tried to contact Farberware, and they never reply me back. I gave up, and now this knife set just sits on my kitchen counter and collecting dusts.
