Not bad. What isn't clear is that the handle, which cases the knife is hollow plastic. The ones that were shipped to me were damaged, and I could easily see how cheap the plastic is surrounding the knife. One bad move and you would be left without a handle - just a long piece of metal. I wasn't expecting $300 knives for this purchase, but with this plastic casing these were overpriced. This would have been a good buy for about $45. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Farberware Pro II Forged 15-Piece Knife Set with Block, Black/Stainless-Steel (Kitchen) I purchased mine at Wal-Mart at least two years ago and they are by far the best knives I have ever owned, and I've had Henckels and a number of high-end German super steel knives. I still use a Henckel's sharpening bar left over from another set and it works perfectly with these . (The one that comes with the set is kind of like a rasp and I've never used it--it is better to get a different one that will create a smoother blade.) These knives stay sharp and are amazing EXCEPT FOR THE STEAK KNIVES, that work fine, but which will tear your plates apart so it is a good idea to think twice about using them on your china. But the other knives hardly ever dull. I have to agree you will get some rust spots on them but it doesn't appear pit or anything like that. It is more a discoloration in the steel.
If you cut using a cutting board and not on plates or ceramic counters these blades most likely will work perfectly for you, and once they start to dull a bit, getting them sharp...Read more 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Farberware Pro II Forged 15-Piece Knife Set with Block, Black/Stainless-Steel (Kitchen) Bought this set from Pfaltzgraff for a Jackson and they were well worth it. (Definitely not worth the retail price)
I am a professional chef and take great care of my expensive knifes but wanted something that I could use and abuse at home and not worry about. They were razor sharp right out of the box and kept their edge for at least 6 months before I had to really sharpen them. The sharpening steel is worthless, I think its what chipped the knives, I just used my own. Don't be fooled, these are cheap knives and they will start to rust and chip. But if you want a nice looking set that you can use and not worry about ruining then buy these knives. |
