Wanted to get a full set of kitchen knives to upgrade from a starter set. Consumer gave Faberware a best buy so I ordered this set.
First impression was very good. Blades are definitly forged and high quality: appear to be in CV or 440 range and are sharp and smooth. Yep they will pass the shaving test if you are so inclined. Balance and feel are good.
The steak knives are stamped and whilc the handles match the utility pieces they are not up to the standard of the other pieces. almost downgraded to a 4 star because of the steak knives but at 79 bucks.
How do they compare to the big W and standing man? They can hold their own and to be honest the out of the box blade sharpness and edge smoothness is better. I got curious and went to a brick and motar business and gave W and standing a good once over. Am knowledagble in knives and was happy with how the Fabs more than held up and in finish did better.

We found this set for $30.00 and have never felt better about knives! They are heavy duty, solid, well balanced knives. They make cutting so easy. Dare I say I am not used to knives that are this easy to use? The steak knives are sharp as heck! Wonderful set, and so many different knives! We cooked Christmas dinner and didn't have to wash any of them there were so many ones to use! Excellent choice!

The out of box experience is first-rate. Just got the set and I'm very happy. Well constructed with durable materials. Knives are well balanced to the point of feeling lighter. Great shaped metal blade where it connects to the handle, not just a flat piece of metal but wonderfully contoured. Every knife you could need and a few more items (sharpener, fork and cleaver). The eight steak knives and scissors are not as high quality as everything else, but their no embarrassment either. Great set very impressed.
