Wide blade not the best for slicing, box cheap for 4 piece set.,

I own this in it 4 piece set incarnation (which is the fork, knife, knife rest, and box) Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery 4-Piece Carving Set which appears to be out of stock, which is a good thing. The wood of the box is fine, but the liner is trashy plastic which will not let go of the knives, so do not wait for that version to come back in stock.
As for this version, although the knife seemed sharp enough, it did not do a good job cutting through flank steak and pork roast. Once the knife had pierced the surface, it did well enough, but still was more work than expected. Several of my kitchen knives, both cheaper and more expensive (victorinox and shun) did a better job at carving than this carving dedicated knife.
